The Alltel Center (formerly the Midwest Wireless Civic Center) is Mankato's largest multipurpose arena. It is located in downtown Mankato between South Riverfront Drive and South 2nd Street, near Main Street and the Holiday Inn.
The Civic Center is used by the MSU Mavericks Hockey team. The facility seats about 4,300 spectators for hockey games.
From 1998 to July 2007, the facility was known as the Midwest Wireless Civic Center, but was changed due to the acquisition of Midwest Wireless by Alltel in early 2007. The Civic Center was built in 1995. A city sales tax of 0.5% has been levied by the City of Mankato since 1991 to help pay for the Civic Center, downtown renovation projects, and Mankato Regional Airport improvements. This tax is slated to remain in effect until 2015, when the Civic Center's debt should be retired.
