Evangelical Lutheran Synod

The Evangelical Lutheran Synod or ELS is headquartered in Mankato. It owns and operates Bethany Lutheran Theological Seminary and Bethany Lutheran College, both in located in hilltop Mankato overlooking the Minnesota River Valley. The ELS has affiliated churches in many states and foreign countries.

In the Mankato area, there are two ELS-affiliated churches: Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, near ISJ Hospital, and Peace Lutheran Church, in upper North Mankato.
